Have you walked by the condos on Silver Spring & Lake? If you listen carefully, you can hear the crickets chirping in there. As far as I can tell, of the 13 condos inside 5600 Lake Drive, 11 of them are still for sale.

Now sure, the market is slow, but while the "completion date" was December, 2006, you can be sure the people financing this beast were trying to unload these suckers the minute the paperwork was dry, over 3 years ago (April 2004). They've been trying to sell these properties for ages.

So, after all the hand wringing about what to put on Silver Spring and Lake drive .. how it was the jewel of Silver Spring, the grand gateway to "downtown" Whitefish Bay. What do we have to show for it? A bank and 11 empty condos.

Looks like the grand plan, whereby empty-nester Whitefish Bayers pack up and move to smaller condos has flopped. Can we get a do-over on this deal?

When the empty lot was being discussed, my wife and I frequently (and still do) fantasize about what would have been a great addition. While everyone has their own tastes, I think a neighborhood restaurant/pub is something WFB needs dearly.

Ever been to the Centennial Grill in Mequon? Like that. We go there all the time. It's like a secret club for all the swell Mequon people. I suppose Jack Pandls' is our club, albeit twice the price.

So, who is with me? Let's set a date, say one more year. If the condos aren't sold up, let's tear 'em down, start fresh!
