Next 10 Days

There's a few items you should have on your calendar over the next 10 days:

1. Monday, April 21st is the first Village Board meeting with newly elected Trustees Julie Siegel and Thomas Fehring. The agenda is a real barn-burner!

2. This Thursday, April 24th at 7pm, Advocates for Education of WFB will host a forum entitled "The Pitfalls of Raising a Children in an Affluent Community" with featured guest Philip Chard.  The event is located on the 2nd floor of the WFB library.  You can find out more about Advocates for Education here, and read more details about the forum here.

3. Saturday, April 26th, the WFB Civic Foundation is hosting "Green Day in the Bay" .. This is a volunteer effort to spend one hour, from 9am-10am, to clean up our streets, parks, and beaches.  Contact JulErickson@sbcglobal.net or read the details here or the NOW article here.

4. Next Tuesday, April 29th is the WFB Plan Commission meeting to discuss the application for Aurora Health Care to build a medical clinic on the old Famous Footwear/Talbot's property on Silver Spring.  The agenda can be read here.

Prediction 1:  Aurora gets their clinic.  The CDA approved it, and what Aurora wants, Aurora gets.  Who knows, though.  Maybe the seven commission members will see what an important corner-stone property it is, and hold out for something that would be welcomed.  Hope against hope.

Predictions 2-3-4: The next three major properties that are renovated on Silver Spring will have rents so high that the only viable businesses are medical clinics, pharmacy chains, and banks.  Shorewood will be so envious!

Another informative blog by Kevin. It is unfortunate that his predictions will probably be correct. It is unfortunate that only Aurora-type businesses can pay the high rents demanded. They can readily pass those expenses to their patients and insurance whereas a small business is unable to do so if they are to remain viable.

The good news on Silver Spring is that "elements-therapeudic massage" has opened at 312 East Silver Spring.

Aimee Matchette is the Owner and Veronica Chairez is the Manager. They offer a varient of services to include Swedish massage, deep tissue and trigger point massage sports massage, prenatal massage and hot stone massage. I had the opportunity to meet Aimee and Verinica in their shop and found them to be delightful. I'm sure that they will provide their clients a salubrious experience.

They will have an Open House Celebration on Friday May 2, 2008, 4-7 pm. Please come to WELCOME them to Silver Spring.

I do believe that your date is correct for the April 29th meeting.  It was my understanding that date was changed to the one you have listed.  The CNI daywatch states the old date - just so everyone is aware of the correct meeting...

As far as "what Aurora wants, Aurora gets" I would have to disagree with that statement as they have followed the rules, guidelines and laws of Whitefish Bay's requirements for putting in a business.  I would tend to agree more with Gordon's statement that Aurora can afford the high rent.  So really the property owners should be to blame - IF anyone was looking to point any fingers.

Although I am not a "touchy feely" kinda person, I do appreciate Gordons effort to promote a new business and the Silver Spring Street.
