Calhoun Road to open December 1

Here's an update from Director of Public Works Tom Grisa.  I don't think the Calhoun Road widening was anyone's favorite project, but it is a key part of relieving traffic congestion on Bluemound , Moorland, Greenfield, etc.

Calhoun Road to Open for the Winter

Calhoun Road from Greenfield Avenue to Bluemound Road has been closed all summer and fall.  Although construction is not yet complete, the road is scheduled to re-open to traffic December 1, 2008 since construction activities will largely be reduced or eliminated pending weather conditions.

This will be a temporary opening of the road, to allow for traffic to negotiate the corridor on the new lanes that have been constructed and under the new freeway bridge constructed this year.  Extreme care should be exercised when traveling this segment of Calhoun Road as one of the old bridges still remains and traffic will need to wend its way through the bridge piers on the temporary pavement.

There is still one more freeway bridge to replace in Spring and Summer 2009 and after that to complete the rest of the road widening project in 2009.  Once the snow is gone in spring the road will be closed to all but local traffic again until the work is finalized later in 2009.

The City of Brookfield appreciates everyone’s patience thus far throughout the project.

Thanks for the glad tidings. And thanks also for so actively communicating citizen reaction to the proposed decrease in library spending.

As you apparently recognize, the peoples opinion occasionally serves as a good guide to government action. Now if only we could get the 535+ folks in Washington to realize that, we'd at least get a government of, for and by the people.

Have a good turkey day Alderman Berg.

Alderman Berg's reply:

Thank you Mr. Elf.  I'll leave some extra cookies for your boss to bring home in a month.
